The Confession
Rwanda 2004
In March 2004, in the province of Kibuyé, I interviewed and photographed Rwandan men and women who had confessed to their participation in the genocide of the Tutsis ten years earlier. In 1991 the population of this western province of Rwanda was 473,920 of which there were 399,470 Hutus(84,3%) and 71,225 Tutsis(15%).Between April and June 1994, 59,050 Tutis were exterminated.At least 600,000 Rwandans participated in the genocide.The majority of these criminels are free and have never been bothered by the justice system.
